How was it built?

Let me tell you about my portfolio's creation process: from ideation to Visual Identity creation, from prototyping to code.

The idea

I had the idea to create this portfolio during a trip. I wanted a project to deeply explore the Laravel ecosystem, and I believe the best way to learn is by practicing.

In this project I practiced a lot, both the creative and technical parts.

The design

As you can see, the site's aesthetic breaks from the standard found on the internet. I love the style of shadcn/ui and similar, but I didn't want that — I wanted something truly unique. This brutalist aesthetic has always caught my attention, it has a retro style that reminds me of my first contacts with the internet.

Here's an example of the mess my Figma became at some point:

Figma no Início

(At some point I still want to organize the Figma 100% and make it publicly available.)

So, over some good weekends, I kept researching brutalist design references and testing, testing, and testing, always seeking to have my brand identity while keeping it pleasant for the end user, even though brutalism isn't known for being pleasant.

In fact, with the portfolio already finished, I found a wonderful site with several brutalist components (which would have saved me a lot of time if I had found it earlier). In it, the testimonials section has several fake testimonials with comments like "If you want a 0% conversion rate, this is the library you should use".

The code

This project was born as a way to deeply explore the Laravel ecosystem. I built everything from scratch — from authentication to admin panel — to understand each layer of the framework. It was a valuable learning experience that solidified my technical foundation.

Today, with more experience, I would use tools like Filament and Livewire to accelerate development, but the knowledge gained from building from scratch remains fundamental in my daily work.

Future

This portfolio is a living project that constantly evolves. I use it as a kind of sandbox — always testing new technologies, experimenting with different patterns and applying what I learn. It's my personal development lab.

Thanks

A general thank you to all friends who always gave feedback on the project. And a special thanks to these folks 👇
